The current GINA act does not prevent Life insurance, disability and long term care insurance from accessing non-symptom genetic test results from medical records when making their underwriting decisions. Federal legislation is needed to restrict access and the use of all genetic information to prevent genetic discrimination during not only the underwriting, but also during a claim on a policy.
