Studies show our foods have lost significant amounts of nutrients over the past 80 years. As discussed in the book, “Beyond Organic: Growing for Maximum Nutrition and Flavor” by Dr. Jana Bogs (PhD, horticulture), food nutrient density can be restored, starting with optimizing the soil. Comprehensive soil analysis, which includes at least 18 minerals and soil microbiology, can tell the farmer what needs to be done.
Not only can a Nutrition Grown program restore nutrients in the food, but it also greatly increases yields, quality, flavor, and pest and disease resistance. Healthy soil, healthy crops, healthy people!
To broadly implement the Nutrition Grown program, free training should be offered to farmers. Those farmers who successfully complete the training program will qualify for subsidized comprehensive soil analyses and organic-quality soil amendments. Additional help, such as farm loans, can be made available for needed land and equipment purchases.
A certification program for Nutrition Grown practices can be implemented.
An awareness program for consumers should also be implemented. People need to understand the value of Nutrition Grown quality food. This will drive demand, which in turn will support farmers to grow this higher quality food and become certified.
The USA can be the world leader in supplying Nutrition Grown foods. We can not only make America healthy again, we can help the world to become healthy too!
