Testing of ingredients and finished products for contamination with heavy metals such as lead, cadmium and arsenic is not currently required for products to qualify for use of the USDA Organic seal or organic labeling.
Organic certification of foods is pointless if there are still health risks to consuming them. The official definition of organic should include being free of heavy metals.

However, knowing now that organic foods have been tested higher sometimes double of other foods, and based on this 2017 study that suggests a link between autism and heavy metals do we know for sure this is a joke?
The FDA needs to set maximum allowable limits for toxic heavy metals found in foods to be eligible for organic certification.
