The 17th Amendment has nationalized all senate races. Rural and less populated areas are underrepresented because of the voter turnout in metropolitan areas. Currently, elected senators are incentivized to serve the large urban areas and the federal government. Such incentives remove local control and accountability. A restoration of the state representatives electing the two state senators would return incentives to address state centric concerns rather than national or global concerns. Certainly, a new amendment with improvements to address the underlying issues preceding the adoption of the 17th amendment is possible.

Good idea, but I would want to give citizens the ability to remove a Senator from office every election year or every two years. with a 55% vote. This would be a standard vote to either keep or remove any sitting Senator. If removed, they could never hold a senate seat again. Removal would be immediate and the state legislature would appoint a new Senator. Removal would also be possible with a 2/3 vote by the state legislature at any time.
