Repeal no child left behind rule

Remove

  1. No child left behind. This mendate removes the ability for teachers in educating students and teaching critical thinking skills. Children deserve to academically excel from teachers who expect kids study and learn.
  2. Chicago grid math from k to 5 grades. This matrix math is completely useless. It does not teach children basic math skills. Instead of teaching higher level multiplication/division, pre algebra, or any STEM, middle school math teachers are forced to teach basic math skills.

I agree, it pushes kids through without the necessary skills.

I would take this MUCH further. Another point would be to expose the egregious differences between average school “education” and that of inner city schools. We are NOT taught on the same level or standards. Rather than using this as a competition point, we should find the highest level school standards and aim for that across the board in all communities.
Further, we need to start teaching the Constitution, pride in our nation and its rich history (even owning the painful parts) and using those terrible things to teach ourselves what to NOT do, how to deal honorably with others.
We need to also teach the mistakes of the past such as how the Civil War was a distraction to replace the original 13th Amendment with the current version, how WW1 was a distraction from the institution of the Federal Reserve, the abolition of the United States Treasury in 1921, being replaced by the International Monetary Fund, the removal of our Gold Standard by H.J.R. 192 in 1935, how WW2 was a threat and distraction from our being signed into the United Nations in 1945, the anger from that still keeping the People distracted while we were signed into the BAR Treaty in 1947 with the Barrister’s Guild of London which created the American BAR Association. The list can go on and on. But our children need to learn these things and the impacts.

I agree, with teaching at different levels. My take away is expectation of learning and teaching. If kids are not expected to learn, they will not learn. Schools need to start demanding respect from both the kids and the parents.

Discussion Topic: Respect Teachers Again

I absolutely agree- NCLB was used to “dumb” down the classroom to the level of Sped resource rooms in order to save money on paras and special educators. If a child is succeeding in the classroom, albeit at a much lower level, there is no need for an IEP or other learning plan that will cost the district money. Tricks we used to reach and teach those with difficulties are now the standard, which is a disservice to the general classroom population.
