Remove sales tax on healthy food

Eliminating the sales tax on healthy food items such as meat, dairy, fruits, vegetables, breads legumes and health beverages. Allow taxes to continue to be charged on highly processed and junk foods.

Hypotheses:

Given to participation of shoppers on tax free weekends when school related items are purchased, it is apparent that not having to pay sales tax is a substantial incentive to all particularly in this time of high prices.

Incentivizing the purchase of healthy food items would be a best first step to helping Americans eat higher quality food which is fundamental to becoming healthier.

If eliminating the sales tax is not possible due to local policies, then possibly lowering the sales tax them might be an option.
