The word “gender” is ambiguous and fluid and should be removed from all laws and regulations that use the word where the word “sex” is appropriate.
Sex is not ambiguous or fluid. Any human that has a Y chromosome is a male. Any human that does not have a Y chromosome is a female. These are biological realities and should be used exclusively where the word gender has muddied the interpretation of laws and regulations.
Y chromosome humans should only participate in sport competition with other Y chromosome humans, and they should be excluded from X chromosome bathrooms, locker rooms, etc.
X chromosome benefits, scholarships, awards, medals, etc. should be withheld from Y chromosome males.
While I agree with the sentiment, I disagree with the specifics. The word sex refers to the act of sexual intercourse. It is gender (when used properly) that is specific to x or y chromosones. The word gender is actually the most correct word to use. It is a noun not a verb. The problem lies in the misuse of the word gender
I disagree., Elizabeth. Here are some dictionary definitions of sex. Also, sex is the protected class in federal law. Or used to be before gender mixed everything up.
Either of the two divisions, designated female and male, by which most organisms are classified on the basis of their reproductive organs and functions.
“How do you determine the sex of a lobster?”
The fact or condition of existing in these two divisions, especially the collection of characteristics that distinguish female and male.
“the evolution of sex in plants; a study that takes sex into account.”
Okay. I was working late at night and didn’t look up definitions but took what I learned from my college preofessor (cough, cough.) Isn’t it wonderful to be aable to dialogue?
It seems to me that the opposite is true. The word sex is sometimes used as a shortcut for sexual intercourse but originally and more often it is used to indicate a person’s attribute as male or female. On the other hand, the term gender has been repurpose recently by social scientists, the media, and others to mean sexual orientation. The term is often used interchangeably with sex, which adds to the confusion. Is there a reference you could provide to support your claim so I could educate myself?
