I see many food product in Texas have “Contains a bioengineered food ingredient” on labels. Many of these products come from Nabisco, Kelloggs, some Kroger brand, and much more. To make Texas healthy, I want to make a policy where bioengineered ingredients are banned in Texas and replaced with natural ingredients.
Why stop with Texas?
You have a point. I rather have states decide.
Good thought but how could that even be carried out? Bioengineering began back in 60’s. So even seeds labeled “Organic”, which only means that THIS season, nothing artificial was used, doesn’t preclude BioEngineered seeds weren’t used.
Follow me here…let’s say a crop of wheat was BioEngineered in 1965 (Season 1=s1). The seeds from s1 is used to plant s2; s2 seeds used to plant s3. The subsequent seasons all are using seeds from the Originally altered growing seasons. Subsequent crops don’t revert back to a Pre-Altered/Pre-Engineered state.
So essentially at this point in time…some 60 years…season 60+… after BioEngineering started, pretty much Everything grown, at least in USA, will be BioEngineered. I don’t know about imports. So how could we tell if it’s Bioengineered or not? I guess making laws to prevent further Alters would be good, but kind of seems like it’s too late at this point. And Organic only means This/current season. What about seeds used from last season that were exposed to deadly/cancer causing fertilizer/pesticides? If those are used, should it really be considered “organic”?
Since we can’t go back in time, I honestly don’t know what the answer is or even if there is an answer/solution.
I agree….. Let’s BAN Bioengineered Ingredients in Foods in Texas.
I AVOID products with Bioengineered whenever possible!!
I do the same whenever possible. I see them on many labels where they once weren’t. It’s sad to see. I prefer a healthy society over a sick society anyday. Surely, we can incentivise farmers to increase productions or make companies with urban farms like in Japan.
