We need to regulate how truancy is handled. I understand that idea behind wanting to make sure kids are at school (for children who are being neglected) BUT it’s hurting the parents who actually care for their children. My child was sick and in the hospital and I was told he was missing too many days.
Then he got the a stomach bug, was out a week. They counted that as 5 unexcused absences when we only get 10 a year, because I didn’t have a doctors excuse (because I’m not driving to the doctor every time he gets sick to be told “it’s a viral let him rest”) they doctor cost money. The government only wants our children there because then the schools get money for them!
I even picked my kid up early once because he had a fever and they counted it a 1/2 a day against him!
Children need mental days, they need a break! They go to school 8 hours a day 5 days a week.
We HAVE to creat a policy that forces schools to stop with the threats and let our children properly get over their sickness.
Do you know what happens when parents are scared they are going to get in trouble if their sick kids missed another day? They send their sick kid anyway. Then everyone else’s kids get sick. It’s never ending. PLEASE vote!
