Regulate Insurance - Bring Insurance Cost Down!

Insurance cost are through the roof! From auto insurance to a homeowners insurance, the price of insurance has gotten out of control. Getting homeowners insurance in California, for example, is nearly impossible, and the rates are unlivable. We must collectively find a way to regulate and bring down the cost of insurance. Business insurance, workers comp, liability, E&O, Property and casualty, are hurting small businesses when it comes to turning a profit.

I welcome any and all ideas to help bring down the cost of insurance to make life more affordable for the average citizens as well as small businesses nationwide.

There has to be something done to help the citizens in California with affordable insurance for their homes! So many people are going without because they are being dropped, or and they can’t afford what is available. Such as the California Fair Plan for fire insurance which is the California Unfair Plan!
People are being told to remove trees, historic trees, plants and then they are still dropped! Please Help the homeowners for California!!

The other problem is that in some State like Florida where insurance cost is through the roof, repair are never done in time, so in one hand you’re required to get insurance, and on the other you have no leverage to get them to do their job in timely manner, that’s a huge problem.
In any case insurance costs are so high all around the country now that it put a serious dent in people’s budget.

The insurance industry has gotten out of hand when it comes to unreasonable risk assessments, cost evaluations and underwriting contingencies. Insurance companies want to be profitable and continue to grow profit to stay and to stay in business. The states are supposed to oversee these rate increases but they are paid for by the insurance companies so they just let them slide through.

The bigger problem i see is that insurance is paid by commission for the term of the policy. Insurance agent/company should not be allowed to be commission and paid for the term of the policy. That is a major contributing factor to the higher costs.

I agree, it’s out of control. I was at the Grand Wailea in Maui in March. 500 person insurance conference. It’s like $1,000 per day per room. My health insurance in 2012 for 6 of us was $1,000 per month, now it’s $1,900 per month each plus the deductible, eye roll

How much is enough taxes paid for one individual? Should it have a cap, like $1,000,000 in a lifetime for a couple or $500,000 for a single person. Lifetime limits

Insurance is a racket itself!!! Business Insurance is through the roof already, and then they audit you for the year before and require you to pay MORE based on what your sales were! EVEN if you did not have a claim! THAT IS THEFT.

On top of that, here is my experience this year: I was expecting the audit. They did not give a deadline to get the information to them by. I asked what it was and they said it was already past due!! I was also told that if I did not respond they would charge double and send it to collections.

Excuse me but I already paid the insurance premium in full and had zero claims. Anything beyond that is theft.

Insurance companies should not be for profit, plain and simple.

There should be no insurance companies. Insurance should be handled 100% by the individual state insurance department. Not for profits.

This would ensure all citizens who are home owners have reliable coverage without all the BS. Citizens would all be given the insurance needed based off the cost to rebuild their homes.

All the extra whatnots for loss of use or personal property could be dealt with commercially.

The fact that citizens are isolated from or rated based off on factors they cant control. Companies that have made false promises to many customers who lost everything only to find out they have actually no coverages. This is the biggest scheme. Consumers are not totally innocent in that. Many want just a premium at the lowest cost and dont care to hear or understand the terms of their policy. Some do lie or try to fraud the system.

If it is state run, non-profit. Citizens would actually benefit. Excess unused premiums from less claims could be used as a fund for when bigger disasters occur.

As citizens if we demand it from our states and pull the funds from the current insurance companies, they would have no choice.

We all need to work together to change the system on that. That is the only way to get these ridiculous premiums under control.

In the event of any disaster, people without insurance coverage turn to go fund me campaigns. Doesnt guarantee help.

Affordable and Fair Insurance for All
We propose a new insurance model aimed at significantly reducing the cost of premiums for homeowners, businesses, auto, health, and more. This model would function as a shared-risk community pool where everyone contributes a small portion each month. Here’s how it works:

  1. Transparent and Accountable: Premiums go directly into a shared pool. When claims arise, payouts come from this pool without excessive administrative costs or unnecessary overhead.
  2. No Lavish Spending: Funds will not be used to build extravagant corporate offices. Existing infrastructure and technology can handle operational needs efficiently.
  3. Guaranteed Payouts: If you pay into the pool, you’re entitled to receive fair coverage when you need it. Insurance companies cannot withhold payouts or arbitrarily decide how much they’ll pay.
  4. Lower Costs, Better Coverage: With reduced overhead and shared responsibility, premiums drop, making coverage more accessible to everyone.

This model focuses on fairness, transparency, and the responsible use of collective contributions, ensuring that the system serves people—not profits.

This would be a good start.

It should be run specifically by the state department of insurance. Using the same infrastructure, with no profitable gains whatsoever.

If it is a pool of insurance it should not be combined into 1 for all risk types.

That department was created for the purpose but companies started taking the wheel and gaining profits. It should be salaried or hourly wage.

Also location does matter significantly when it comes to risks. People who live on the coast would clearly benefit and use the fund more often than someone who lives in the middle of Iowa. This is why it should be state run and the cost per person should be based off of their location. If you want to live on the beach, you get to pay a higher amount than someone has a safer location.

Or if you want to live in a disaster prone area, you dont qualify for that insurance. Maybe provide some coverage for personal property but not the structure itself. People who choose a risky location and sees constant floods, wildfires, climate changes and storms should be given a reduced coverage plan.

If we eliminate profits and commissions. Premiums will be much less. Likely more than 50% less in cost.

I did not mean to pool all types of insurance together. I agree that different areas have different needs. I agree that it should be based on the individuals(auto insurance), not the zip codes necessarily.

I think if you pay into the pool, what ever that premium may be for that area your home should be covered. You have to consider, currently we have weather modification and disasters are man made. Not all, but many. I do not believe that there will be such disasters in the near future.
