Regulate dietary supplements

The dietary supplement industry needs some regulation. Energy drinks have too much caffeine in them which is bad for the heart. Many athletic performance supplements have unsafe levels of toxic metals in them and questionable ingredients not evaluated by the FDA.

Too much regulation isn’t always the answer people need to take responsibility for themselves. We need less censorship many naturopaths post information online but because its not supported by big pharma its taken down.

I don’t like regulation but as someone who has spent thousands on supplements we need to make sure what is in it. Example if the bottle is stamped pure alaskan salmon oil thats what it is.

I do agree with that. Purity of product.

I do not believe the FDA is a reliable source to ensure “purity of product”.

More and more people are waking up to the corruption in the FDA. I don’t trust them even an inch! They are corrupt as ever and we need some sort of agency that actually cares about people’s health. It’s not gonna be the FDA, that’s for sure. I have my own company so I’ve had first hand experience with them.

Just because something is natural, doesn’t make it safe or effective. I’m not confident that supplements are as helpful as advertised or formulated in appropriate quantities that account for the rest of our dietary intake (multivitamins, for example). These can be scams as well. I would prefer that there was data backing up the efficacy. If we can’t trust the FDA, then we need to make those necessary changes, but that’s a separate issue.

Many vitamin supplements have really high doses which are not safe.

I would have to agree with others… it is not so much regulation of the PRODUCT that we need as regulation of the LABELING so that there is transparency, clarity, and completeness. So that the consumer has the necessary info to make informed choices
