Those graphics say it all. Will the line end up going all the way to 100% soon enough?

Hey Abe hope you’re well. Can you tell me where are you finding these charts??

I have been trying to limit purchases from China. Unfortunately many of the products listed with online retailers make it next to impossible to find if the products were manufactured in China. I do realize that these products are cheaper to buy initially but in the long run is very expensive for our country. I hope you are successful in your goals.

yes it’s the conundrum of understanding the difference between instant and delayed gratification… as a whole the economy seems to want instant gratification even at the expense of our long term health and success… I’m not sure if it’s possible for the market to mature past that…

As I understand this rule, Americans ecommerce is losing, the taxpayers are losing by subsidizing China selling directly to the consumers anything less than $800 and the USPS via the taxpayers is subsidizing the shipment. My experience with the products from Temu is that the item is not what was represented and its hard to get a refund. Lose, lose, lose. This is a good scenario to give to Trump’s economic team that is going to right the economic unbalance through tariffs on foreign products. In your original proposal you mentioned eliminating the De Minimis Rule. Is this enough to correct the situation?

The question was whether I understand the issue. Why isn’t there a place to vote for supporting legislation?

It’s at the very top left corner of the proposal! Please do vote!

It’s definitely going to need more than eliminating the Deminimis rule. The proposal is to prevent Chinese companies from selling directly to retail consumers on platforms like Amazon, Temu, Tik Tok Shop or Shein.

I am a small scale manufacturer of LED neon signs here in Florida. Over the last few years my Chinese competitors have driven down the pricing so low that It has crippled us. We still make sales on Etsy and Amazon but we make about 1/3rd of what we used to. Our quality is superior. Our materials are superior. Our customer service is superior but none of that matters to most consumers. The final cost is what matters. It is unfair to have foreign competition like this. I completely support a ban from Chinese selling to consumers or a meaningful tariff on all products from China to consumers.

You almost can’t blame the consumer, it’s like a force of nature for the market to seek the lowest cost; and, with online shopping, the search placements reinforce that by favoring sales volume (which favors cheaper prices). So the cheap stuff rises to the top and your higher quality more expensive stuff may not even make it to the search.

That said, everyone always takes for granted that access to cheap low quality foreign goods is a net benefit - I’m not sure how we came to that conclusion. Are we better off feeding American consumerism and filling our houses with plastic and phthalates while enriching foreign economies? Or are we better off with our own businesses and economy thriving and purchasing higher quality products?

Exactly. We need to keep our money in our borders. Which only strengthens our economy.

I will post a link to this topic in the Etsy and Amazon craft groups so we can attempt to get more voting on this from small business owners.

Thank you so much for that! I’ve been working on this a lot and have been a bit burnt out but it’s probably a good time to start pushing it again now that this site is getting more attention.

If you’re going to end “sold by china” you should end “made in china” now if you’re just proposing to end sold by china but still support businesses buying from china to then sell to Americans at a higher price then I don’t agree with that but I am all for Made in America and Sold in America!

Well I think trumps plan would do a great job of incentivizing the transition to US manufacturing but like it or not our economy has become dependent on China and many businesses today are dependent on Chinese products. We should protect the US businesses that remain while working to bring back those already lost

Yes, and if social medias in the US allows them to run ads to sell to us, small businesses that have protections such as patents, trademarks and copyrights should be able to upload them to the social medias team and they have to pay for any damages. They are fully aware that these websites use our images for their ads and continue to allow it knowing that the reporting systems are long and ridiculous. Many small businesses simply don’t have the funds to fully fight the big guys and they know it. If I would have known that on top of the payment and fees of every patent, how much it costs to simply send 1 cease and desist, I would have said a patent really isn’t worth it. lol. Once these sites see something worth copying, it’s on all of the sites like wildfire. Me and many others had to close our storefronts in the Dallas Market Center because no one was buying. Why would they when these website have knockoffs so easily accessible for pennies on the dollar?

The proposal goes further to say Chinese companies shouldn’t even be allowed to sell to US consumers… why should they have this access and ability when we don’t have a commensurate ability to generate that revenue off their economy?

I came to this site to post the same thing! This is a must! These smaller shipments being imported shouldn’t be allowed to bypass tariffs/taxes either. They are able to offer free shipping and low prices because they ship under the $800 threshold.
