Let’s add in here … recognizing disability. And adding accommodation to adhd or add . Dyslexic . And more these kids can not sit still in class rooms they need more hands on learning , teachers continue to get mad , Suspend, punish kids that have more energy or learn slower . They push them to the point kids are developing ibs from induced anxiety with will cause higher cortisol and can turn into cptsd from ongoing stress that can cause trauma in a school setting. I’m huge on psychological safety

Smaller class sizes.

I concur. As far as the general student body, people focus so much on tools and restrictions such as arming teachers and metal detectors. We need to get to the root of the problem, which is the mental stability of kids. With almost every shooter thus far, if they had just one person who cared enough to talk to them, and help them work through what they’re going through, the violent acts will drop significantly. That’s a big reason why I say, every school needs a CPS rep and at least one psychologist/mental health specialist on site at all times. For special Ed, all schools should have accommodations. Furthermore, SE teachers should have quarterly training, while all other teachers need at least a yearly familiarization class.

What ratio should be the standard. I would say 1:24. Although, that’s hard to regulate. With allowing parents to put their kids in whatever school they want, teacher retention, and prosecuting bad teachers, certain areas will have an easier or harder time maintaining that or any ratio.

Well I definitely think a lot of kids are suffering from traumatic stress. I can give an example. I have been fighting for my daughter to get help she needs for years for dyslexia and the schools did two evaluations on her at two different schools both came back as normal but I disagreed and went to a neuropsychologist and did an evaluation for autism. In the testing they found dyslexia and for years I told the school she had it . They kept denying her disability until I went to professionals outside of the school . I don’t believe parents should have to go to that extreme measures to figure that out. The behaviors and anxiety may come with a disability and that can cause violent behavior because of being overwhelmed . It’s just something I noticed with in the school system . Also anxiety impairs your learning process. We need things put in place to acknowledge and help kids decompress. Some children are not good at showing what’s wrong . Everyone has an attachment style due to coping mechanisms. We need to acknowledge the attachment and work thru these to help our children . We need yoga, decompression and silent rooms for children . No child is bad , they are products to their environments. People thought my daughter had home issues but I proved the problem stemmed from the school system . Cps doesn’t help parents . It hurts the family dynamics in SOME cases . When these children may just have mental health or learning difficulties that trigger reactions as well .

There does need to be a discernment between the extreme of learning disabilities. One kid that’s dyslexic doesn’t have the same needs as a kid who’s clinically retarded. Some schools want a blanket solution and think that’ll do. I do believe the CPS department needs mass internal investigation as some agents abuse the system for monetary and/or personal gains, while others are just incompetent at their job. I agree with the concept though. I think a good solution is, schools having tier learning programs that each student can stay on pace with. As they progress, they can work towards getting in the higher tier learning rates. As long as the student passes on any of the rates, they’ll be equipped to be a functioning citizen of our society

That sounds wonderful!! how do we fight for this !! I’m a volunteer advocate. I also advocate for workplace Psychological safety act for NYS . I’m ready to take on the school system
