Predatory Towing

North Carolina has no protections against predatory towing and booting. You can come out of your apartment and your car can be gone for something like, for example, a small crack in your windshield and claim it obstructs a parking pass.
There are already proposed bills in place such as proposed House Bill 1037. It’s a step in the right direction to prevent companies, namely apartment complexes (and some businesses that have parking decks and lots), from being up in arms with towing companies that overcharge (sometimes more than what the car is worth) and provide no information to, or put any effort into getting in contact with, the alleged violators. Even more so that a lot of towing companies are not 24 hours, making it difficult to retrieve a car in a timely manner. They mainly target places such as college campuses and low income places which is even worse.
Ultimately I’m in favor of that proposed house bill and I believe this issue needs more attention.

This reads like it’s a North Carolina issue specifically, not a federal issue.
