Policy on Political and Sexuality-Related Speech in Classrooms

The purpose of this policy is to maintain an educational environment that is conducive to learning, free from divisive or potentially disruptive discussions related to political ideologies or topics of sexuality. The goal is to ensure that classrooms, from preschool through all college-level classes, remain neutral spaces focused on academic development, where all students can feel comfortable, respected, and focused on their studies.

Compliance with this policy is essential to maintaining eligibility for government funding and support. Any violation of this policy by school personnel or the administration at any level of education—from preschool through college—that leads to the introduction of prohibited political or sexuality-related speech in classrooms may result in the removal of government funding or other financial support.

Adding to further clarify after feedback:

  1. Prohibition of Political Speech:

•Discussions, presentations, or assignments promoting specific political parties, candidates, ideologies, or movements are prohibited within the classroom.

•Teachers must refrain from introducing political opinions, agendas, or advocacy in their instructional materials or classroom discussions, except in subjects where the exploration of political systems is part of the curriculum (e.g., history, civics), and even then, the approach must remain neutral and fact-based.

•Student-organized political discussions or expressions, such as posters or speeches promoting political campaigns, will not be allowed within the classroom setting.

  1. Prohibition of Sexuality-Related Speech:

•Classroom discussions, assignments, or materials explicitly addressing topics of sexuality, gender identity, or sexual orientation are not permitted.

•Teachers are expected to focus on the academic content outlined in the curriculum and avoid introducing personal views or facilitating discussions about sexual orientation, gender identity, or sexuality unless it is directly relevant to the approved subject matter (e.g., health education).

•Students are encouraged to respect their peers and avoid introducing personal beliefs or opinions on sexuality or gender identity in classroom discussions.

Political conversation CAN be a healthy way to teach students about other view points, how to debate, learn how to agree to disagree, when is compromise valid, when should you stand your ground and encouraging open conversation.

The problem with todays political teaching is that it is so very one sided and the theory of politics is not taught. Remove teachers personal opinions and have a more theory based curriculum that encourages thinking and problem solving.

On the topic of sexuality- 100% agree, get this out of schools!

I agree, I graduated from high school in 2017 (so not too long ago) and almost every time politics came up in class discussions my teachers were very careful not to reveal their personal political ideologies. I know this isn’t always the case but in my opinion it is good to have challenging discussion and they can be done well.
