Pet vaccination should be a choice. Too many animals are over vaccinated and forced to continue this in states that legally require. Meanwhile dogs are second to humans in cancer rates and live half the amount of time they used to. Lepto shot killed my parents dog within two weeks. Please vote.
100% agree! I always thought a vaccine was a one and done and maybe a booster many years later. Why call it a vaccine if it’s done yearly? I truly believe these vaccines caused our previous dogs liver cancer. I really hope RFK jr. Includes looking into veterinary practices too!!
Agree. Way too many pet vaccines, way too often. My dog was so very sick after the 3 vaccines the vet gave at once when he was a pupply, i thought i was going to lose him fir 2 days.
He was so tiny and so sick. Could not sit or stand, He was like a wet rag and horrble trembling through his whole body fir 2 days.
And…they give the same dose to a tiny pupoy or a big rottie.
No more vaccines for me.
Stop these vaccines. Concentrated on a healthy immune system. Retrain the veterinary staff
My beloved best friend (Rex, black lab mix) is 11 now…. I am choosing NOT to vaccinate him further. I believe the older our pets get, the less they tolerate those strong vaccines. I can ALMOST guarantee my old 10 yr old Lab died 4 years ago from Trifexis. They just get too old and frail to handle it. Not sure what to give Rex now for flea/tick/heartworm, though. Any suggestions?
I had a wonderful vet who advised against vaccinating my older dog. I was grateful. My farm dogs never got vaccinated yearly or every 3 years for rabies and lived long healthy lives. Now people have to practically hide their undervaccinated animals.
Pet vaccinations are not mandatory except for rabies since it is 100% fatal. Having said that, if you have for example an indoor cat, the chances of it ever coming into contact with a rabid animal is nearly zero so personally i wouldnt vaccinate it for this.
For non-mandatory vaccinations like distemper, lepto, parvo, panluekopenia, feline leukemia, i might opt for it when they’re young and go outdoors but I am skeptical now on my pets getting these year after year believing they build enough antigens. I will choose to not vaccinate after a few years.
Of course, it would be nice to really know what is necessary since i no longer trust the medical/pharmaceutical profession. It seems it has all become about inducing fear to cause a reaction to produce money for themselves.
Love this! Thankfully I have a vet that doesn’t push them. My last dog lived to be 14 years old. That’s the longest any of my dogs lived, and the only one I didn’t vaccinate year after year.
Absolutely agree! We are forced to vaccinate our two dogs every year and it is not necessary. This must be stopped.
Vaccinations are a vet’s bread and butter. Unless you find a holistic vet, you are pressured to vaccinate and poison these innocents, much like what is happening to the children. A titer test will tell if a dog or cat previously vaccinated is still protected.
Sadly, I think the veterinary community already knows the vaccines are harmful but yet continue to follow the schedule pushed by the pharmaceutical companies, just like in humans. I stopped vaccinating my pup (only gave her the rabies shot because it’s mandatory in my state) and had titers drawn for the rest to see if she really needed them (spoiler alert…she didn’t!).
My groomer and dog nutrientist for 40 years told me that dogs need 1 rabies shot when they are young along with a parvo shot and thats all they need. When we got our new puppy we took him to the vet for first checkup. They gave him a covid shot without asking us. Now my dog has autism. Never knew dogs could get it. To many vaccines. No more for my dogs.
I have an 18yo dalmatian and she is healthy but struggles a bit with joints and hearing.
I informed my vet last year that i would only be getting her rabies shot bc she always feels bad weeks after her vet visits and at this point, im more concerned with quality of life than quantity. I think the rabies are pointless but due to state law i have no choice.
FOR CANINE HEALTH DO SOMETHING ABOUT DOG FOODS AND REQUIRE SUPPLEMENTATION OF OMEGA 3 FATTY ACIDES.
There are issues within issues. Rabies vaccines I agree with being mandatory. In my locale of NWFL the other vaccinations are not legally required. Part of the problem for reactions is that dogs are not being properly bred. My dogs are descended from southern farm bulldogs and have very mix origins. They never react to vaccines and they only get the others when I need to board them. The pet boarding places demand the shots.
Mine have no allergies and can and do eat just about anything and can even handle milk and of course corn based products.
This appears to be a state level issue since the feds to my knowledge do not require the other vaccinations.
Some should be up to the owner, but dog parks and boarding facilities should also be able to ban dogs who have not been vaccinated since the diseases they protect against are contagious so banning potential carriers makes sense. Also the rabies, vaccination should be required,. Rabies is a 100% fatal disease and is pretty rare due to wide spead dog vaccinations, but bats, raccoons, feral cats, etc. are all found with the disease. Also, to protect the dog, if it should bite a person and the owner can’t prove it was vaccinated the victim or the authorities can require the dog be tested for rabies, which is done by cutting the dogs head off and sending it to a lab to have the brain examined.
Our dog ate a bat and had rabies vaccine. They still quarantined her and gave her double dose saying it didn’t matter if she was already vaccinated. So not a guarantee ever. We’ve lived through it. This is my point. The “for your protection” sounds real familiar. They shouldn’t be able to take your dog and do that either.
I did work in veterinary medicine from 1993 to 2011. In the early 2000’s the dog and cat vaccine schedule was changed. Distemper combos for both dogs and cats could be done every 3 years. Some vets chose to split the Distemper combos apart so the pet would get part of the combo one year and the other part the next year. Lyme and feline leukemia were moved to optional status, if the dog or cat was at high risk. Owners with pets not coming in for daycare, boarding, grooming, elective surgical procedures including dentals could decline any of the vaccines.
Although, not vaccinating for at least rabies was frowned upon. Early in my career we had a 2 year old cat living in a second floor apartment that was not vaccinated for Rabies play with a rabies positive bat. The health department gave the owner the option to board the cat for 6 months at their expense or euthanize the cat. Due to the cost the owner opted for euthanasia. If the cat had been vaccinated, another vaccines may have been the only thing needed with minimal observation at home. So, we did bring the story up to make sure the owners would be fully informed. Not to mention, if a human would get the disease it is nearly 100% fatal with a few surviving with close observation while in a medical induced coma.
I guess you missed the part where I mentioned that our dog ate a bat and was still forced to quarantine with our vet. She was vaccinated. They stated it did not matter and still treated her for rabies. So what’s the point. Government over reach no matter how you dice it. You cannot control everything and they shouldn’t have authority to do pull the animal or euthanize. She later died from cancer. My mom’s cat has not been the same since her rabies vaccine.
In a completely separate circumstance in another town my grandfather was bit by a rabid bat. He’s 84 and doing great. Because he was treated.
I agree. Same should apply for Cats! Some Vets require Cats to have Rabies shots even though a Cat never goes outside and not in contact with other animals.
Best thing to do would be preventative treatment of the yard and typical areas he is in. Stopping them before they have a chance to get to him is the best bet.
for worms/parasites, you can put 1 tablespoon of ORGANIC Mothers apple cider vinegar in his water bowl daily. It helps with digestion and keeps bugs off your dog and good for parasites. You could also do what I do, mix Skin so Soft bath oil in a spray bottle and some organic lavendar essential oil in spray bottle and spray down your dog for keeping fleas, ticks, mosquitos, etc off your dog. I put rubbing alcohol of flea comb and come bhrough the body, it kills any fleas. do it daily and vaccum daily and get rid of the bag immediately. I use aloe from the plant directly for any hot spots. It heals the entire body. I’ve coated up a 92 lb dog from head to toe when she had an issue scratching from rolling in the landscapers mulch pile all the clippings they bring back. I figured it was from sprays put on people lawns. She lost hair. Go to the store, buy those large leaves, slice them open, scrape out the gel and slop it on. its healthy. won’t hurt them if they lick it. For the butt, I use tucks pads with aloe gel stick to butt, put on pull up panties, cut hole for tale. In two days, butt is healed although don’t leave it on overnight. during daytime only. Collitol silver also works for parasites put a dropper full in water bowl for 7 days. Its not an every day thing. Hopeing this information helps. Do everything natural. I even use SSS in water as a rinse for my dog after bath. It soothes the skin snd keeps bugs off the body.
