Continuing the discussion from Bring back Home Economics to the Education System:

Another area that I believe should be included in Home Economics is personal finance. Students need a thorough explanation, understanding and ability to apply these skills to become financially literate in a variety of ways. Topics could include budgeting, paying bills, applying for credit, maintaining/ improving credit and how it effects your ability to borrow, completing simple tax forms, and a basic understanding of economics (supply and demand, needs vs wants).

and why isn’t this the responsibility for the parents?

I agree that it is the responsibility of parents. Unfortunately, they’re not providing the knowledge or the skills. Allowing citizens to remain uneducated on personal finance is unacceptable because in the end it hurts us all.

Agreed, and that definitely needs to change. Covering it up by doing it for them won’t make a difference.
