At least twice a year, hundreds of persons who live in cities, subdivisions, communities suddenly become self-taught pyrotechnicians. There are annual injuries, damage and fires - and arguements. As if this is a given right to act the fool and stir up sometimes looney actions. These activities also upset wildlife. Most persons in their own homes who have not volunteered to be jolted from dusk to after midnight - not to mention the drinking, yelling, and mess left behind have to put up with others’ decisions. No one asks the nearby neighbor if they have ear plugs or mind if a burning ember lands on their roof in the dry climate. The unrest disturbs babies, day, night and third shift workers from sleeping. Home pets shake and quiver for hours. It does not make sense that selling fireworks is legal to people who do not have a clue about what they are doing. Most cities and counties have guidelines and noise ordinances. But the local authorities do not post list or advertise the rules and do not enforce misuse - unless they are called - and often show up hours later. I love to view fireworks for a few minutes. It is a big part of an American celebration as well as when the calendar rolls to a new year. However, many more suffer the irritation than enjoy the noise, danger, injuries and possible fires. Is technology not advanced enough for these not to have the level of noise of a real bomb or gun fire? Can restrictions be applied that would rule that demonstrations be conducted on empty land or in an arena, away from the high population areas and only put on by licensed experts? The introverts, home bodies, resting, reading, meditating, studying persons have rights too. And are the majority as well.
