Other countries get a longer family leave to be home with their new child, and get it paid. America has FMLA which gives us 12 weeks unpaid time off. Families that can’t afford this are forced to return to work sooner hindering the bonding process.

Places of employment should be required to give 4 weeks of 66.7% paid maternity leave to mothers who give birth to a child (usually the amount of time it takes to recover essentials.) and 1 week to the father or any married partner.
This would allow the new family to bond with the child, and also allow new mothers to recover and raise the newborn without worrying so much about expenses.
Then if a family wants more time to recover or bond with the child, they can take up to the 12 week FLMA unpaid leave.
