Paid and longer Maternity leave

Currently it’s not mandatory for employers to give paid maternity leave which prevents a lot of women from taking any maternity leave at all. Babies being with their mother for a longer period of time after birth carries so many amazing benefits. FMLA only provides 12 weeks, and a lot of women have to take several weeks before the birth of their baby which takes time away from being with them after birth. Mom staying home with baby longer improves infant health, increases chances of being able to breast feed, improves mental health, and reduces child care costs. We are the only country without paid maternity leave.
