In addition to overtime, many aspects of an overtime detail in law enforcement are 1099 jobs, which do not fall under actual overtime. A great many hours worked by law enforcement officers are considered “extra duty details”, and require the same job details as regular duty, such as traffic control, security, in police units and in uniform. However, officers are required to fill out a 1099 tax status and are taxed heavily. This policy would extend the overtime exemption to law enforcement for security, traffic, or other enforcement details while in uniform.
