Organic Gardens at Schools

Many Schools have extra land that could be used for students to grow organic gardens for the community. The food grown could be given to senior centers or used in school cafeterias. This would not only benefit the community but also give a skill a student could use for the rest of their lives. These skills would allow students to bring home their new lessons and adapt them to their families making them self sufficient and lead healthier lifestyles.
While many rural school districts may have land available for this type of project, urban areas may have roadblocks where no land is available. Creativity would be key. Raised beds and new innovations in Hydroponics may be

I was about to post and was led to your post. Great minds think alike. People have become divorced from the understanding of their food supply and this would get the kids involved. My husband is a middle school teacher and for some reason, kids will not always eat what is provided in the Cafeteria, not cool or something.

If they were involved in making the produce that was served at the local school, not only would it improve the quality of food and lower the cost for the cafeteria, it would involve them in the food provided and if they were awarded or acknowledged in some way would most likely draw them back into the cafeteria.
