Private citizens are being forced to pay for rebuilding and repairs of 4 dams which were damaged from a dam breech in Midland and Gladwin counties in Michigan. The dam that failed was privately owned and was in disrepair. Michigan government failed to force the owner to complete repairs which led to it’s ultimate failure and devastating flooding and damage to property. Now Midland and Gladwin counties are forcing a SAD on home and property owners on the lakes involved. The proposed assessments are in the thousands of dollars per years for the next 40 years plus interest charges. This ends up taking a major bite out of the value of the home/property.
Also, these are public lakes and the burden of replacing/repairing infrastructure should not fall on the shoulders of the lakefront property owners.
