The problem is we have a media-driven profit culture that has been profiting more and more, ever since the 1970s, on the primary precept that “sex sells.” The wealthy people steering this capitalist bonanza misrepresent biological “science” in an attempt to achieve their “wealth-ist” (those with the most money are always right and meant to rule) political and financial ends. The root of much of it was the 1973 Roe v Wade decision which has been teaching every generation born since that all human relationship is based in, and derives from our sexuality (see RIGHT TO MATERNAL/FETAL HEALTHCARE & EDUCATION to stabilize the abortion issue - #187 by PeoplesMandate for just a tip discussion of that destructive iceberg trying to be law that has dictated an ugly amount of our healthcare being taken over by politics and lunatic greed for more than half a century).
A vast majority of human relationship has nothing to do with sex drive and is not directed by hormonal urges, but the teaching of this falsehood as truth has caused untold damage to this society as a whole as well as most of the individuals in it.
Hallmark and other channels like them have bought into this incorrect information to the point of it having become a “belief” system that demands representation of homosexual couples as a part of “normal” life, as if being homosexual is the equivalent of being of a particular race or gender, or having blue eyes or red hair (which are biological “fact”-for lack of a better word, and thus genetically determined). It’s a misguided effort attempting to enlighten everyone and thwart societal prejudice (the road to Hell, as they say, is paved with good intentions). We’re not, as human beings, mere insects doing a constant mating dance. Our behaviors are determined, and controlled, by a significant number of factors including higher thought as a result of education, and that independent determinism known as “free will” (the only “right” Roe should have reinforced for women was the right to say, “No.”) As you note, it is in the miseducation of young people about human relationship with respect to Love where it does the most potential damage.
Legitimate Love (which is absolutely free, always under individual control-and always will be), which occurs in private intimacy between individual human beings of all ages, genders, races, (even ideologies and ethnicities), etc. is a fundamental need. Sexual activity is not a need (at best it is, at times, a very compelling “want”–and for men especially, also an addiction–which is a very different discussion), but the “wealth-ists” running this society have been conning everyone to believe having sex is a need, including, for women, a huge economic one, and laughing all the way to the bank about it as they count their still more billion$.
The conflation of homosexuality, and in particular, the teaching of homosexual stereotype, which is behavior (and comes under the heading of the realm known as “acting” much more so than the science known as biology), with legitimate biological phenotype–i.e. what we are as a result of expression of specific genes that determine things such as a person’s skin or hair or eye color or gender, is a dangerous step onto the proverbial “slippery slope.” If all manner of behavior is argued as needing to be tolerated, and even venerated, as if it is just an expression of someone’s fundamental genetic reality, then there are no grounds for having laws that stipulate unacceptable behavior such as stealing or murder.
The media, money and sex-driven culture has seemingly pushed US to this point. It’s time we demand public institutions learn accurate biological science, what is, and more importantly, isn’t, genetically “programmed” (if you will) and thus beyond the control of the individual, and represent these things accordingly and accurately, especially to young people.
