NFA repeal and ATF abolishment

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing to respectfully urge you to consider legislation to address the overreach of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the burdensome restrictions imposed by the National Firearms Act (NFA). Both of these, I believe, represent infringements on the rights guaranteed by the Second Amendment of the United States Constitution.

First, I propose abolishing the ATF in its current form and reallocating its responsibilities for alcohol and tobacco oversight to agencies better equipped to handle such matters. Similarly, firearms regulations under the ATF should be eliminated, as they have consistently imposed undue restrictions on lawful gun owners. Any necessary regulation for firearm safety or commerce should be addressed through a transparent legislative process in Congress, ensuring accountability and alignment with constitutional principles.

Second, I ask for the repeal of the NFA. Its restrictions, such as those on suppressors, short-barreled rifles, and other firearms, serve as an unnecessary impediment to law-abiding citizens exercising their Second Amendment rights. These regulations have done little to enhance public safety and have instead placed unjustifiable burdens on responsible firearm owners.

If there is a need for updated firearm safety standards or regulations, I believe those measures should be debated and passed through the legislative branch, reflecting the will of the people. Such an approach ensures both constitutional adherence and public accountability, rather than reliance on bureaucratic rule-making.

I trust that as a defender of the Constitution, you will consider these points seriously and take action to protect the rights of American citizens.

Thank you for your time and your service to our country. I look forward to your response and to seeing your leadership on this matter.

Thank you.

Yes! I was going to write something up like this but you’ve already done it. Most Executive Branch agencies are creating new laws through bureaucratic interpretation on a daily basis, but creating laws is supposed to be the exclusive duty of the Congress. The Constitution designates Congress is the sole branch that creates law, and there is no authorization for Congress to pass that power onto another branch of government. That alone seems unconstitutional.

The NFA, in comparison, is a century-old law created to fight bootleggers. We haven’t had those for quite some time, so it probably wouldn’t hurt us to consider repealing the legislation. It would be nice if the common man had access to suppressors, so he could target shoot without having to wear heavy ear protection.

and repeal all laws preventing felons from being able to protect themselves and their family

Agreed, but for non-violent crimes only.

Given that the Federal government has no Constitutional authority to regulate firearms, alcohol, or tobacco, repealing the NFA and getting rid of the ATF is just common sense. Let’s throw in the Gun Control Act of 1968 while we’re at it. We now have an opportunity to end decades of accumulated Constitutional violations. Let’s make it happen.
