Since the beginning of the United States of America in 1776, we have been a melting pot of individuals from all parts of the world as well as people already here. Over the first 100 years, we made some mistakes and we made some beautiful achievements. The next 100 years we were trying to correct mistakes and create a country that we can all be proud of. As of 1976, we are perfecting so much here in America and trying to keep up with additional changes we may have lost some important connections. Therefore, I believe for the 250th birthday of America we must change our Census and Demographics to read the following …
American: any and all Black or White or Indigenous/Native Americans that have roots for more than 3 generations on this land. We were here from the beginning and rather than being reduced and set aside this will balance the misguided racial injustices by meshing these 3 demographics. White is not a race, Caucasian is a small collection of European people, Black is not a race, and colored people do not justify the fact that we have the same American cultures and same American names. We would also be uplifting Native Americans and assuring them they will keep their sovereign land but it will help them integrate in the cities of America better and with no paperwork judgment.
Asian American: individuals from the continents of Asia with 2 or less generations of family here in America; Indians, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and many more will use this term.
Oceanic American- for any and all island people who have 2 or less generations of family here in America
European Americans - French, Italian, Swedish , German, and many more Europeans do not need to identify as White any longer. If your family has kept a solid record and you feel a deep cultural attachment to our most documented history you may use this term, or within 2 generations or less may use this term.
African American - Nigerians, Egyptians, Moroccan and many more African countries do not need to identify as Black any longer, if your family has kept record and you feel deep cultural attachment to the origin of our histories you may use this term or, if you are 2 generations or less may use this term
Latino American - South America and Central America host so many nations that speak modern forms of latin. If your family has kept record and you feel deep cultural attachment to the most diverse of world histories you may use this term or, if you are 2 generations or less may use this term
Arab American - this is a favorable term for our middle Eastern communities, as beautiful and diverse as they are we recognize all families 2 generations or less under this title.
Australian American - finally, in hopes to maintain a regional census rather than promote racial tensions we will add this term to recognize folks who are not white, not European and those who are truly native to the Australian and New Zealand lands. Families that are 2 generations or less will use this term.
Migrant: a status for all legal Migrants and immigrants, including legal asylum seekers, legal refugees, and of course legal travelers that will be in America for work or education. Since their children born in America will be Americans, they will be granted access to the titles above only after babies have been born in America. If they choose to be child free, they will always be an immigrant as there are no generations of Americans ahead or behind them.
I am not a policy maker so this may need some adjustments but I believe the best way to heal is forward change. None of us can go back in time and right Americans wrongs, but we can look for a future that recognizes the logistics of the world. Our American cultures come from every area of our world. As we make time and space for occupying Mars, we should recognize we are one race, the human race, and here in America, we understand history and we recognize no invisible lines on a map will define us or change our beautiful cultures. We can only celebrate them as we do in America with Cinco De Mayo, Chinese New Year, and many more large and small American holidays.
I believe in the America I was raised in from the 1990s where we are all different colors but all pledge allegiance to the same flag. I was raised by an Army veteran who taught me to respect my dark skin but still love those with light skin. I do not identify as a “Black” but rather an American.
I believe anyone who would like to recognize that their family has lived in America for more than 3 generations should title themselves as such. Especially when they love America and believe in its constitution.
I believe this can end Racist antics and “Black Vs White” disparities when reviewing paperwork. It ensures houses are being sold because someone qualifies for the home not because of the color of their skin. It helps schools recognize merit and talent, rather than fulfill a quota of “races”.
Of course Medical Paperwork will have a more detailed request as many illnesses change culture to culture and we want the best medical practices in America for our citizens.
Thank you for taking the time to read my policy idea. I hope this makes America great again.
