Make all medical people, including doctors, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, respiratory therapist, midwives, phlebotomist, nurses aids, etc. and anyone that has a medical based license to a national license so that we can work in any and all states. Currently, in order to work in more than one state a medical provider has to obtain 50 different licenses. This is expensive and during times of disaster, for telemedicine it prevents medical people from offering assistance, etc. A national medical license will increase the access to care.
Here to second this motion - after 20 years in healthcare, I can attest that this would increase equity of access to healthcare and competition in the healthcare space dramatically. This should apply to literally any healthcare licensure, there is zero reason for them to be state by state. If we could also require health insurance providers (private and Medicaid) to accept Medicare’s credentialing nationally as well, one massive barrier to entry for private practice would be removed. They literally do the same thing over and over, for every provider, and CAQH was a good start but not a complete fix.
Let’s return to conditions where providers who want to are able to work for themselves instead of massive healthcare conglomerates - competition is good for everyone.
