Culture in the US is a mixing pot and always will be. However this is not England, Mexico, Germany or any other country. We have our own culture and own holidays as well as our own traditions. Your aware if you assimilate into a country thats not a bad thing. You bring your culture in, you wouldnt go around Israel demanding they all celebrate Christmas would you? no that’s called culture assimilation. Claiming we need to speak every language in the book and celebrate as a country every holiday there is. Thats what will divide people and continue discrimination. To act as a country you have to be the culture of the country. We still allow people to celebrate their holidays and their traditions. Thats called freedom, however demanding it of the entire country will destroy a countries identity. One day you’ll realize culture is not taking away from a race, sex, or creed. This is the US we have our own culture and should not be forced to appease the world. Notice our companies have floating holidays? those are there so you can celebrate YOUR holidays, not the countries if you so choose. Im not taking away from anyone’s freedoms simply aware that the US has its own culture.

In the USA, unlike most countries, everyone has the right to free speech, and these people also have the right to express their opinions. However, their right to speak does not obligate anyone to listen. Not to mention that if these people want to be heard, they must learn English.

It should be prohibited to hire on the basis of bilingual and it should be prohibited to pay increased salaries/wages for bilingual employees. Learning can be challenging for some individuals to speak another language, it is not a skill that should be incentized unless it is ASL.

The US is supposed to be a Union of several ‘nations’ or States with their own governments and cultures. Finding unity in our ideology of liberty, freedom, justice, happiness, self-preservation; not culture, religion, creed, race, gender, or age.
Enforcement of culture, assimilation, is not freedom and liberty for all. No, If a Christian were to move to Israel, they should practice the celebration of Christmas independently, without the government condoning it.
The ethnic cleansing and enforcement of culture by the Several States to the Several Tribes has lead to effects that we are still reeling from today. The Cherokee Nation only just was able to secure the title for a few boarding schools from the Dawes period of our concentration camps in order to identify and properly bury the mass unmarked graves of children.
The US was never supposed to have a culture, because you’re right, we aren’t a region with identity like Germany, or even Mexico. Each State, rather, has it’s own culture. George Washington highlights this in his farewell address, along with the need for unification.
Because the Several Tribes were pushed to assimilation, they chose sovereignty and retention of culture or death. As would you. They Tribes should have been integrated as a State on the land the already possessed, and given representation granted they established a constitution. Most Tribes attempted and were promised representation through Treaties, but Courts like in Georgia ruled against the Cherokee request due to the US not viewing the newly united Cherokee Nation as a foreign entity, even though it organized, established an official written language, and supported the print of several bi-lingual newspapers, the very first ever-all to show the US they were ‘civilized’.
Most now living in semi-sovereignty, paying into three tax systems, living on resource-less patches of land, where the only taxable streams of revenue are tourism through deporable industries like gambling. Like everyone else, they were robbed of self sufficiency and hooked on the welfare system of dependency. Out of 6.6 million Native nationals 1.2 million go annually without running water, and 400,000 annually without electricity. That population size is more than my home state, and the people without amenities larger than the total population of the 3rd largest town.
They wanted integration and peace so badly. US cultural assimilation and definition of ‘civilization’ prevented that.

Making an American national language for the sovereignty known as America has absolutely no impact on the already sovereign native people or their individual nations and their chosen languages!
I think there have been some replies that covered exactly why this is the case.
Now to your point, i’ve done some more digging and it’s slightly possible that the founders left it open to future citizens to make english the federal official language; however, since they never explicitly said that, and there were plenty of conversations around the importance of national unity and language which never led to a national language, there is currently a stronger legal argument against the establishment of a national language and it would most likely take an amendment to make it official. And even then we would probably have decades of wasteful court battles to duke it out.
i think we are getting off topic a little bit here,
ethan is saying that the europeans did everything bad that they could (written to avoid the censors and moderators and approval processes) and forced their language on everyone. So, he’s equating all of that to creating a national language. Im not saying he’s right or wrong, but I dont like the idea of the government having that authority. Government should have barely any authority and should have to beg us and grovel for permission to do anything. I think a national language would open up a lot of potential doors for tyranny.
The bottom line is It would take an amendment to make this happen, and we have bigger problems to fix with higher returns and more unity behind them.
Bilingual speakers shouldnt receive more pay. Some pay gaps are significant for bilingual vs non bilingual. Some roles are only for bilingual candidates, which shouldn’t be allowed.
I don’t think it’s necessarily worth the time or effort to make it a law or amend the constitution, unless it becomes a problem going forward. There’s hyper nationalism at the moment due to the open border over the last four years. While before this outgoing administration there was illegal immigration, it was gradual and therefore the threat of the invasion of foreigners was not an immediate threat as it is today. Facing such an explosive crises causes a drastic response, understandably so. I do however believe we should simply use English as the official language and not spend the time or expense on accommodating those who entered our nation and are not fluent. There should be no expectation to change the common language spoken just because it’s easier for those who do not speak the American language to reap the benefits this country has to offer. Multilingual ideology inevitably will tear away at the fabric of our society until there’s nothing left but factions. We are the United States and we the people want it to stay United.
I like this but my only suggestion it, like the state I live in Nevada, where it’s a 24 hr town, both night classes and days classes, would be better, this would allow students to work day or night which ever they wish, this would be better for the work force. With just day classes here, world force students who wish to work could only work at night but if there was an option, that would lessen people forced to work just at night.

That’s an illogical argument. Not all people want vaccinations, not all people should get vaccinated, all people are required to speak English to become a U.S. citizen.
Exactly, it’s already required, there is not a need for an official language or further cultural assimilation policies. We’ve seen what it does in the past.

It’s perfectly logical, and already what’s taking place. therefore there isnt a need for additional legislation requiring a mandate of culture. Courts have already proved that English is the only language our legislation is going to be constructed in.
