Move the National Capital (additionally disperse Federal Agency HQs across the Country)

One of the contributors to our current political climate is that DC has become an echo chamber for the political elite – they are no longer among their constituents.

To help correct this, we need to move the capital to make our leaders more accessible to the common man. When our country was first established , DC was the geographical/population center of our country. That is no longer the case.

To rectify this, we need to move the capital to one of the following locations (any cities mentioned below should NOT made the new capital, they are just the nearest major geographical points):

  • Evansville, IN: This is roughly the population MEDIAN for the US.
  • Springfield, MO: This is roughly the population MEAN for the US.
  • Deadwood, SD: The is roughly the geographical center of the US (including AK and HI).
  • Franklin, NE: This is roughly the geographical center of the US (excluding AK and HI).

In addition to moving the capital, agencies need to be decentralized and focused where they can do the most for The People. They are only to be NDC (New District of Columbia – Working name, lol) quarterly to meet with the President, Congress, and the Senate for a maximum of , let’s say, a week. OR during a national emergency that must be outlined a SINGLE ISSUE bill for that agency, to prevent/minimize an attempt to reestablish an agencies permanent presence in NDC.

Example of Agency locations:

  • Department of Agriculture: somewhere in IA or somewhere in the Midwest.
  • Department of Energy: TX-- drilling, solar, wind, fracking, possibly nuclear in the future.
  • Department of Commerce: NYC, or some other city that is high in commerce.
  • Department of Transportation: Kansas City, KS – This a major city for the freight/logistics industry.

In addition to some of these examples above, several agencies should be broken up to better serve specific regional needs. An example of this is breaking up FEMA into 4-6 agencies so they can respond quickly and appropriately for that region’s needs.
