Our electrical grid is very outdated and is in need of a major updates for our security and well being.
Nearly 70% of the electrical grid is outdated and limiting our modernized level of electrical output. Most of the infrastructure was built before the 80’s. Technology has come a long way and we need to adapt all aspects and not just one area. The energy transmission system is generally owned by your local power company and it is there responsibility as well to make sure that these things are maintained properly. It is the 21st century and we need to raise and maintain our standard across the board when it comes to this stuff - there is no reason that the U.S. should have a growing rate of blackouts.
In the town where I live, Findlay Ohio, the local power company, AEP, is updating the power lines from the traditional wood poles that we see to large steel poles that are more structurally sound and able to better withstand weather conditions and transfer energy more efficiently.
