Military housing

On base military housing (army) is so outdated and not well kept by maintenance and the privitized housing companies they have. There is asbestos, mold, black mold, roaches, mice, and lead problems going on. Why is it that the military who fight for this country for the people to have their freedom, can’t even get a suitable house for themselves and their families? Why are their children constantly having to get sick for something to happen? Military men and woman should be given the right to suitable, up to date housing.

We spend so much money on new missiles and the like but next to nothing to actually make sure our troops are taken care. This is a great proposal!

Our housing community paid at least 14,000 per house on siding alone as part of a “beautification” project. Meanwhile they were cutting holes and doing slap jobs on water intrusion and “microbial growths” (legally not allowed to say black mold because they didn’t have it tested.). Our family had to be displaced and then rehomed due to the state of our house. They still owe us per diem and we have experienced financial hardship, illness, and strain due to this whole issue. While we were displaced we met other families who were also displaced from different communities due to similar recurrent/severe issues with water intrusion.
The military housing property management needs more checks and balances. Housing advocates should be more accessible to residential dependents so that service members are not required for their dependents to settle disagreements especially in hazardous situations.
I would ask that a more “open” and resident friendly policy be put in place regarding how repairs and funds are spent on the resident’s home. Residents should be allowed to choose updates/repairs to flooring, countertops, and appliances. Residents should be allowed to contact approved vendors to eliminate vague answers regarding waitlisting for essential repairs. If we had been allowed to choose for our home wether to spend 14,000 on siding or to allocate those funds towards the servicing of our HVAC system and remediation of water intrusion, we would have had a better chance of making our home liveable enough to have avoided all of this headache.
The current property management company (from how it was explained to me) was appointed by congress in 2001 and they have failed the service members and their families. Either need more resources or something but the federal government needs to help us.
