Studies show that 20-60% of mental patients do not respond to medical model, standard of care, pharma-based treatments. But this stat is ignored, and many are force drugged with RX they cannot metabolize, are polypharmacy of cocktails that the Physicians Desk Reference (PDR) says DO NOT COMBINE as this can cause death. This is happening all over the country, and this killed my brother and my father. A very expensive practice when treatment resistance is so common, yet ignored. Mental health practitioners must obey statutes, and end punitive practices that make these folks worse in the name of treatment. Medical model is failing. Standard of Care prevents families from protecting their suffering loved ones. This causes homelessness, and mass incarceration. In Oklahoma, over 70% of the incarcerated have a mental illness needing treatment. It gets worse every year. Our family member endured 34 years of this, until he was found dead 2 days after discharge from a psychiatric civil commitment. He had metabolic dysfunction, Type II diabetes, and the facilities were all informed by the family, but they only forced more combo RX on him over and over. The madness must end. We must do better.
