I work for a niche grocery store. I’d say it is a growing business. The group health insurance, along with the amount the company pays is less than what seniors pay for medicare. Medicare has the most members to a group policy than any other business group out there. So why are the premiums so high? I feel that the government needs to look into this and lower the prices for Medicare and other insurances that are for seniors. It should be 1 insurance that includes all aspects: health, dental, prescriptions and visual.
I agree ! I will be 65 shortly. The whole learning Medicare process is mind boggling. Between Plan A,B,C, etc… It’s like taking a college course. I feel like they just make new amendments instead of actually reforming it. They are contradicting
as well. They need to simplify this, for seniors. We already went to school when we were young. SS decided on their own that I wanted Plan B , deducted it from MY SS, and I had to fight them to get the money back. I had not made my choice yet. The Plan B probably is overcharged so they can "give ’ you a food card on one of those other additional advantage plans, which you cannot get unless you pay for Part B. It should be one insurance, easier to navigate, and the price should be lower. SS and Medicare help lines forward you back & forth between them trying to get help.
Part A is free, Part B you have to pay for, it is the basic medicare package.
Yes, I dont understand why we have to take out Medicare BEFORE our full retirement age (mine is 66yrs10mo) when I’m not even taking monthly SS benefits yet. So… I am paying $175/month OUT OF POCKET and have no job and barely any income. When they raised the retirement age from 65, they should have also raised the mandatory enrollment age also (based on birth year) so that they matched. What idiots!! This results in me paying for Medicare OUT OF POCKET $175/month for almost two years for the period between age 65 and 66yrs10months. I was on Tricare before I went on Medicare and PAID NOTHING for my health care, now, way back when they raised the retirement age, someone in Congress decided to make people have to pay their medicare OUT OF POCKET if they wait for their FRA. INSANE!! Btw thats $2,100/year they charge us for Medicare when we worked and already paid for it, not including copays, etc…
