Marijuana Legalization

About 1800 pounds of Marijuana is brought from Mexico every year. Thousands of people die from smoking and consuming laced Marijuana, and it could change if it wasn’t criminalized and the U.S government would legalize this natural grown plant. Drug control is like gun control. The people who are law abiding citizens will of course follow the law, however the people who still want to consume can get there hands on it no matter the situation. Legalizing weed would create revenue for the Government by taxing and reducing the millions of dollars spent using resources to incarcerate. The government spends more than 64 billion dollars of taxpayers money to feed, clothe, and house prisoners. The amount of money that the United States could gain from this is limitless. The effects of Alcohol is more damaging to the body than the effects of Marijuana, long term use of Alcohol can decrease testosterone levels in men, cause long term liver issues and the people who are addicted to this LEGAL substance can die if they go without drinking. Marijuana does not have these affects on people. Marijuana was made illegal federally in the 1970 from the Controlled Substance Act, and in the 1970s there was not detailed science about the plant. Our country is in need of reform pertaining to Marijuana to allow safe consumption so people aren’t exposed to other narcotics and opioids. We can cut deaths and exposure to Class I drugs if the government allowed consumption and selling of Marijuana by licensed dispensaries. This isn’t about the Government, this is about the safety of people who are citizens of this country.
