Mandatory Minimum for Gun Trafficking

Mandatory federal sentencing in gun trafficking cases where a firearm was used in a violent crime would massively deter illegal gun sales and hold traffickers (often times the associates, friends or family members of criminals) accountable for contributing to violent crimes by criminals. Registered gun owners who fail to report firearms as stolen, lost, or missing are most probably gun traffickers and enable dangerous individuals to access weapons, increasing violence and undermining public safety (although there should be layers of defense for the inadvertent or unknowing miss-placement of a firearm). A mandatory sentence ensures consistent, strong penalties, emphasizing the seriousness of the offense and reducing the likelihood of guns being diverted into criminal hands. This would reduce inner city gun violence dramatically and instantly. Tough on crime stance with a very meaningful reduction in violence.
