Make puppy mills illegal

You would think that puppy mills, where dogs are kept in filthy inhumane extremely confined spaces and bred for profit over and over again, would already be illegal. I hope you are as horrified as I am to learn that they are not against the law.

There are “state regulations” in place that attempt to set some standards but they are NOT stopping the horrendous treatment of animals which are forced to live out their lives in deplorable conditions. Hundreds of thousands of dogs in America today endure this abuse. Humane societies are overwhelmed, perfectly healthy adoptable dogs are euthanized every day because of overcrowding, and all the while these factory farms for expensive puppies run amok and people are benefiting off of these animals’ pain and suffering.

Products of these facilities very often have long term behavioral problems and expensive chronic health conditions. PLEASE let us come together to MAKE THIS ABUSE, EXPLOITATION, AND GROSSLY INHUMANE TREATMENT OF ANIMALS ILLEGAL.

The conditions for animals living in puppy mills, and factory farming facilities which operate on the same principle of profit over humanity, are morally reprehensible, dangerous, unhealthy, and completely avoidable and unnecessary. We must set much higher standards for how living creatures are treated. Please support local family farms, sustainable practices, regenerative agriculture, and humane treatment and conditions for all animals.

Make puppy mills illegal, and make factory farms where animals are kept in similar dirty unhealthy uncomfortable and confined spaces and prioritize profit over animal health and quality of life ILLEGAL. We can have dog breeders that love their dogs and farms which honor and value their livestock. This will result in happier healthier pets and pet owners, reduced burden on humane societies and shelters, and where factory farming is concerned considerably healthier food and a better world where we reward kind and compassionate people and practices and do not enable or promote the abuse and exploitation of living beings.

I agree, and this issue is one I am committed to. The laws currently make commercial dog breeding in the agricultural sector. The current standards of keep and care are antiquated. Dogs are not livestock, they are domesticated pets. Laws must be altered to reflect this fact. Treating dogs like caged chickens their whole lives is not only cruel and inhumane, it does not reflect the nature of dogs as mans best friend. Until the laws under USDA are changed, this will continue. The general public agrees, but doesn’t know what to do. Also, prohibit the sale of puppies in all pet stores.

This is so heartbreaking. I would like to add cats here as well. And even though they call them adoptions, I find the way that cats and kittens are put up at Petsmart, alone in a tiny glass walled cage for days, traumatizing and cruel. These are social animals, and should ideally be adopted in pairs as well. No more pets for sale
