Make Nutritious, Sustainable Food Affordable: Subsidize Organic Produce, Grass-Fed Meats, and Regenerative Farming Practices

Subject of the Policy:
This policy will provide subsidies to support organic produce, grass-fed and pasture-raised meats, and regenerative farming. The goal is to make high-quality, nutrient-dense foods accessible to all Americans while encouraging farming practices that benefit human health and the environment.

Key Points and Supporting Facts:

1. Health Benefits: Organic produce and grass-fed meats contain higher nutrient levels and lower pesticide residues, contributing to better public health. For example, grass-fed beef has more Omega-3s and antioxidants than conventional beef.

2. Environmental Impact: Regenerative farming methods, such as crop rotation, cover cropping, and rotational grazing, help rebuild soil health, sequester carbon, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. This law would incentivize farmers to adopt practices that combat climate change.

3. Economic Advantages: By making nutrient-rich, sustainably produced foods more affordable, subsidies can reduce healthcare costs linked to poor diets. Additionally, regenerative farming creates jobs and revitalizes rural communities.

4. Consumer Demand: With demand for organic and sustainable products at an all-time high, this law would make healthy food options accessible to a broader demographic, driving further growth in sustainable agriculture.

This policy supports healthier food systems and sustainable agriculture, helping protect our environment and improve public health.

I’m in support of this. There needs to be more transparency on the benefits of natural farming practices, rather than benefits like electroculture and true organic practices being discarded for lazier ways of farming with chemicals. It also seems to align with much of what I propose in this policy as well:

Not all GMO are bad but there’s one company that’s taking it too far and if you try to go organic farming, they’ll sue you and that’s wrong even though they’re product is producing round up in the Plant

I believe you are referring to Bayer-Monsanto, which I think should be broken up since it has become a monopoly.

There are many monopolies in our food supply, from meat to dairy to produce. More meat producers and processing sites are needed, not less. That goes for all other food, as well. The small farmer that has been chased/priced out of farming is the real answer to our food insecurities.

It’s appears as if nothing was learned from the whole COVID experience with regard to our food supply.

These are logical subsidies. As someone working to start a sustainable farm producing organically raised meats and vegetables, subsidies are all but mandatory to even get close to breaking even with the cost of store bought trash being cheaper. Organic and pure food shouldn’t be a specialized commodity for the clean eating folks with money, it should be the norm.
