Consider sending in military (National Guard, Reserves and/or active duty military) as the first response and rescue in natural disasters instead of FEMA. Our military are highly trained and prepared for this type of response. And in many cases standing by on the ready to help. Why not use those resources that we already have? Military can do the search and rescue, can clear air fields for landings, can do helicopter sling loads to provide supplies, Red Horse (in the AF) can build temproary hospitals, staging areas, and whole temporary towns. The military could exercise their skills, help communities that have been affected by natural disasters and boost morale! This would do wonders for enlist numbers also! It is a win, win, win. And after the search and rescue is completed, and people are no longer in life and death situations, FEMA can come in and assess the damage and write 750.00 checks.

Defund FEMA, get rid of the federal government version of FEMA and put this in the individual states. Allow the military to be the federal portion of this when necessary, allow the states the first responses… MAKE GOVERNMENT SMALL AGAIN.
