I am a type 1 diabetic. I was diagnosed in the third grade one month after I was diagnosed with Lyme disease. The Lyme went un noticed and that resulted in me developing the autoimmune disorder Type 1 diabetes. Unlike type 2, type 1 is currently not curable or reversible. We as type 1s cannot survive with out insulin. We have to administer two different types of insulin everyday, one long acting and one short acting. The cost of the drugs without insurance is absurd, and even with insurance it’s ridiculous how much it costs. We did not ask for this disease, we did not want this, and we are forced to live everyday with the fear and anxiety of not being able to get our insulin. This is a personal one to me but I know there are other medications people need to survive off of. I personally believe if you have a disease or illness like mine and your life depends on something like insulin, you shouldn’t have to pay 1¢ for it. Even if we can get the cost of these medications lowered to $20 or below would be life changing for us. All support of this policy proposal is extremely appreciated.

I’m type 1 too and the most stressful part about it is health insurance. Figuring out all the hoops you have to jump through to get medications and CGMs so I don’t die in the middle of the night from going too low. The cost is pretty crazy as well. We pay over 700 a month just for the insurance, then the co pays are astronomical for it all too. Something like insulin is 10 dollars in other countries, why is mine 700 dollars a box? Absolutely mind boggling.

As a mom of a T1 diabetic, I have never understood why we have to pay INSANE amounts of money to keep our daughter alive, for a hormone that every non-T1 diabetic body makes for free.
Type 1 diabetics are unable to access insulin when our life depends on it yet narcan is free.
