Since the SSA doesn’t really fall under a Federal Department, I’m not sure where to post this. I’d like to STOP having to enter my SS# for doctor visits and other places that collect my personal information. Outside of my SS benefits, nobody else should be asking for it. Maybe we should start from scratch with SS numbers?
I agree. I don’t comply. I am very private. I remember when my vote was behind a curtain. Now it’s on Google.
Agreed, except financial institutions need it for reporting income to the IRS. I would further your sentiment and require that any organization that already has SSN information and is not involved with SSA management or benefits or IRS reporting be required to FULLY purge that information within 12 months, and HEAVY fines for non-compliance.
I think enforcement is always the weak link. The dark web has my info. It’s infuriating. I had to place blocks in my credit reports. When I worked for the Feds, China hacked OPM and anyone with a clearance lost all private information. We all continue to get free monitoring forever. It’s the wild West out there.
All true, Debra. I’m sure my data is out there somewhere too, but so far I don’t appear to be interesting enough for the hackers. Restarting with all new SS numbers would be a HUGE challenge and headache, but it’s impossible to erase what’s already in the hands of nefarious users. Rock and hard place for most of us. But a new SSN system and/or blocking future casual use would give hope for the new generation and might save some of those who have not yet been hacked.
I think you should repost this to the Liberty category, since it involves our freedom/liberty.
