Make Swatting a terroristic crime. Swatting is the action of calling the swat team based on false acusations on a target. When based on false accusations, it is an attempt murder on the target’s life using law enforcement. We need laws against this and to go after those conducting the false accusation actions.

There needs to be stiff consequences for those who orchestrate swats on individuals. Jail & or prison time, stiff fines, retribution to the victims and pay the 1st responders time & equipment. That shouldn’t be a tax payer funded pleasure moment for someone who opposes or hates the individual they are swatting!

Reporting a false crime is already a crime. Just need to enforce these. Main problem, that I can see from a casual observance, is jurisdiction.

Agreed, yet those who are commiting this crime are obviously not worried about the possibility of getting caught (even with the sophisticated tools that we already have). One tends to worry more about commissions of crimes when the classification of said crime becomes Domestic Terrorism with the possibility of loosing 1/3 of your life behind bars. The problem doesn’t seem to be the confusion of it being a crime, rather than having the crime carry a stiff enough sentence to create deterence on its own. This is a crime involving multiple guns and a high probability of lethal force. It should carry weight greater than armed robbery, terrorism, and possible murder charges. Most people don’t commit these crimes because the sentences are so harsh. Same should apply with swatting (a life-threatening and traumatically injurous offense). Jack up the sentencing to a possible 20 years, educate the population of this fact, and the incidents will go through the floor overnight. Release most of them after 3-5 years on good behavior but scare the hell out of them with 20-year sentences for commission of the offense. If they want to commit terrorism, then they should also be terrorized by the stiff sentences that they cause themselves. My two cents. Thx.

Swatting is terrorism to the target, community and police force. I suggest the police force use an AI system to help determine more information upfront regarding the caller (terriost) and target (public individual) then use a confirmation system before the actual swat goes down. AI is terrific, hope the police forces use it to their advantage.

If anyone is killed they should be charged with murder and possibly conspiracy.
If no one is injured then attempted murder is appropriate.

Any police entity that engages in swatting without investigation to rule out false accusations should be punished as well. Swatting innocent people is terrorism. So is swatting people who are accused, when a lesser method of apprehension would work just fine.
What makes you think we should trust AI with this task?
