It has been long “known” and is now being laid bare by DOGE that political corruption is ubiquitous throughout Washington. We can never hope to have an efficient and fair government as long as people who are susceptible to greed and wrongdoing are in positions where the temptation for corruption and the benefits of malfeasance outweigh the penalties or likely punishments. The aspiration to public office should be reserved for the truly honorable who wish to serve their nation. Anyone who has even an inkling of corruptibility should obstain from seeking public office. THEREFORE, I propose that a law be passed that if someone in public office is found to have taken money for influence or political decision-making or inappropriately benefits financially from their actions while in service to the country it will be designated as treason and punishable by death as in wartime. Due to the weakness of the human condition, unless the punishment for getting caught is sufficiently high, people will continue ripping off their fellow citizens to become millionaires while in Washington.

You and I could probably come up with hundreds, maybe thousands, of people who fit this requirement, and every one of them do not, and will not, run for office because of the gauntlet they need to run to get elected. The reaming they need to take from the opposition and the media prevent only people with huge egos to run. Sad, but wanting to serve your country is not enough.
