Mainstream media accountability reform

Our country faces significant challenges with domestic hate and terrorism affecting certain groups. I believe mainstream media outlets should be held accountable for the propaganda and inflammatory content they sometimes promote that caused American citizens to do harmful act to each other. Holding them to higher standards would benefit the American people and ensure accountability for the messages broadcasted on national platforms. Media organizations should face both criminal and civil responsibility for any harmful or misleading content they disseminate to the public that result in acts of violence.

I’m not sure about the part of “criminal and civil responsibility for any harmful or misleading content” because who gets to decide what is harmful or what is misleading. That sounds like it could be dangerous andI would be concerned that somehow it could be weaponized and used to put people we disagree with politically in jail. However, I agree with the overall premise of holding the media more accountable. We need to return to a ban on media propaganda and get back to reporting the facts.

There should be a fine line somewhere when lies from news outlets leads to activists and low IQ people doing violent behaviors. There should be some form of accountability.

My solution is a build-up of cases by volume. When their volume of lies builds credibility to them becoming an ‘activist news organization’ with tangible evidence, that’s when they should be held accountable. <—
