Loss of voting rights after 1 year of continuous welfare, reinstatement of voting rights after holding a job for 1 continuous year

This would only be applicable to those who abuse our system, and be a thorn in the side of the people who enable it.
If you have been accepting goverment assistance for 12 consecutive months, you obviously cannot make the correct decisions to run your life, so you shouldn’t get to make decisions that affect mine.
If you can get a job, go to work every day, and show that you are trying to not be a dependent of the entire nation, then your voting rights are fully restored, and welcome back. This would help curb buying votes with Obama phones and Marlboro reds.

The issue I have with this stance is, I, a physically disabled person, would not ever have the right to vote under your proposed change. I do agree there are a lot of people on disability/welfare or receiving SNAP benefits that are taking advantage of the system, and it is definitely an issue that needs to be addressed.

I would instead put forward an alternative form of welfare reform:

  1. Require random drug tests for people receiving welfare
  2. Require regular medical updates from those receiving benefits due to non-permanent disabilities such as work injuries.
  3. Change from a 100% approve/deny system to a sliding percentage system wherein an individual could either get denied, or approved for anywhere from 10-100% benefit amount depending on the severity of their conditions. Ideally, this would save money being used on redundant applications, and save money by giving less to those that need less, but the same amount to those that are completely disabled.

Have a good one!
