Our nations public education system ranks among the worst in the world. A lot of the standards that we test our youth on are the equivalent of testing a fish on its ability to climb a tree - these standards do not create a society of courageous leaders, but instead a society filled with confused followers. We must eliminate standardized testing and base our testing standards off of more life applicable skills. We have to start teaching our children the things that really matter and can help them truly advance in life - taxes/finances, credit responsibility, trades classes, entrepreneurship classes, social skills, technological skills, innovation and creativity skills, etc. These skills prove to be far more important than the skills taught in many public school courses. Education is the key to the future and advancement of our society - why would we continue to teach our children things that we know will not help them?
