Lab Grown Meats Labeling

Require the labeling and disclosure of all lab-grown meats being sold to consumers at restaurants and fast food locations. This is currently not required under the law. Require that it be clearly labeled ON THE MENU, next to each individual listing, and not just on a website where the consumer would have to access it ahead of time. I would personally like to see it completely banned, however, until that can happen there needs to be informed consent of consumers. Currently, there are only labeling requirements for manufacturers to disclose if a meat is lab-grown because of this, restaurants and fast food chains can withhold that information from consumers.

I feel like lab grown meat shouldnā€™t exist in the first place. We really just need to find better ways to make the meat industry more sustainable and properly regulated by federal agencies that havenā€™t been doing their jobs.

I agree, but until that can happen, there needs to be more consumer transparency.

The term ā€œmeatā€ should be applied to animals only.

Iā€™m not sure this goes far enough. Labeling alone didnā€™t stop the spread of GMOs in our food supply. The labels allowed for the elimination of choice. Companies felt no pressure to create GMO-free alternatives, and just slapped the label on the product, instead. It has turned into either try not to think about it or go without the goodies you used to enjoy before they were all poisoned. Iā€™m concerned we might see a similar outcome with lab grown meat.

I would also like to add that the Company that produced the ā€œMeatā€ needs to be provided as well.

While we are at it, lets label all ā€˜Meatsā€™ with the country of origin, state, and farm so consumers know where their food is coming from.

I would ban this altogether

I agree, we need a complete ban. Italy, and I believe other countries, has done banned fake meat altogether. It is not food and it shouldnā€™t be marketed as such. Same with seed oils.

Hereā€™s something to chew on, the low-end estimate of Bill Gates yearly carbon footprint is 7,493 metric tons ( average Americans ,13.8) it would take 2, 997,200 quarter pound hamburger patties to equal his carbon footprint. If your average cow was 1200 lb you would get four to five hundred pounds of meat, that means it would take more than 7,000 cattle to equal Bill gatesā€™s yearly carbon footprint. Bill Gates wants to eliminate cattle they are direct competition with his lab grown meat. I think it would be easier to eliminate a billionaire than 7,000 cattle per year.
