IVF coverage through insurance

Currently, IVF is not covered by the majority of insurance policies, they call IVF elective. However, many insurance companies are covering “gender affirming care.” Is there anything more elective than changing your own gender??

The Trump administration should work with health insurance companies to make sure that IVF is covered. If they leave this issue up to the states, we will see a pull from insurance companies in certain states. For example, the amount of home owners insurance companies pulling out of Florida.

Completely agree. In 1995 my insurance actually covered my infertility treatments including IUI (I did not have to have IVF). I did get pregnant and my insurance actually sent me a check for $100 to incentivize going for regular prenatal checkups and prenatal vitamins. The total cost for my pregnancy and hospital through my insurance was $25!! I know that seems insane but it was awesome. If cannot have insurance cover have tax credits for Infertility treatments and pregnancy/delivery costs. Some want abortions to be paid for with tax money what about paying for the opposite and having incentives for having families? Infertility is a health issue so I do not see why it is considered an elective surgery. The cause of my infertility was endometriosis and PCOS which they would treat and allow surgery due to pain caused from it but some people can be symptom free after being pregnant. Infertility is a health issue not elective.

I’d also like to see coverage or at least partial coverage to those who already have had children. My insurance won’t cover any of it, because I have children already.

Yes even partial coverage for medication or egg retrieval procedure would be great. Those are the most expensive parts of the process. And even covering a portion of those would be great. Have families pay a deductible and the remainder is covered up to X Amount, etc.

:+1: :+1:  There are so many people that this would help build family’s. Like myself I have infertility due to pcos and my husband has low sperm count. Every single process of fertility treatment is an out of pocket cost, from just getting blood drawn to check progesterone levels to medication ect. Anything that falls under fertility help/ treatment has to be paid out of pocket. My husbands medication is $65 twice a month because they only put enough medication in there for half the month and then they want to do another sperm analysis over and over he has had 3 done at over $100 for the first one and $85 for the other two. I’m 22 years old and my only dream is to have my own family. It’s seems impossible, if they made ivf treatment and fertility treatments costs covered by insurance I could have a baby after years of trying with medication and tests after tests like so many people I know who can’t have a child of their own it breaks you down when I just want to be a mother and a good mother and love my child.

I agree

I agree but i don’t think it’s appropriate for low income to qualify for that… I am part of a low income family and I feel like people on assistance programs should not be allowed to force insurance to pay for them to bring children into a already struggling home.
Just my opinion :grimacing:
