Create an Ingredient Database for all products that is available to the general public. Some of the KEY attributes are:
Brand Lookup:
Be able to look up all products for a given brand that would show the ingredients in each product and provide a Rating on that product. All of the Harmful ingredients would be presented with a brief description of possible side effects.
That could lead to a more extensive lookup to see studies that show the harms of these ingredients. It would also provide a Rating for that Brand.
Product Lookup:
Be able to look up a specific product and see the ingredients with a Rating for that product. It would also show the harmful ingredients with a brief description.
Category Lookup:
Be able to look up a specific category like Cereals or Protein Powders and be able to see all of the top brand products in a specific category. Show All products, filter for just the A-Rated products, or show the F-Rated products to stay away from.
Detailed Product Lookup:
All the user to look up specific products based on specific criteria. For example, the user wants to look up Protein Powders. They want to know any Protein Powder that has no harmful ingredients and has at least 20g of Protein per serving and 3g or less of Sugar.
The whole point here is to be able to provide the user with Transparency based on product ingredient details, every ingredient has a rating, and is categorized so the user can easily know if that ingredient has possible harmful side effects. Currently I maintain my own database with ratings from 0-10 (0-3 are Harmful…Definitely avoid these, 4-7 are Bad…avoid these too but the side effects aren’t as serious, and 8-10 are Good which means if there is any very minor side effects, they are an 8 otherwise they are likely a 10). Exact ratings aren’t critical other than you want to have ratings that punish a products overall rating if they have Harmful or Bad ingredients.
Another Product Lookup that is a great feature that I’ve created in my system is whenever you look up a Product, it gives you a Rating for that product but it also gives you a list of the Harmful and Bad ingredients in it along with a brief description and it also then provides you with a list of “clean” and A-Rated products.
I want to be part of this solution. I’ve already done a ton of work in this area but I’d like to see this capability be Nation-wide and available to everyone at no cost.
