In mental health, people are not offered full info about psychiatric drugs, like black box warnings saying cause suicidality. Informed Consent laws are needed badly. Also, when a patient designates legal, statutory treatment advocates and psychiatric advanced directives, and POA and medical POA, there must be adherance to these laws, but every single day these laws and rights are ignored and violated. There must be a way to make sure the civil rights of those with especially serious mental illness diagnoses are protected instead of criminalized, and that their lawfully designated advocates are respected and listened to. This will prevent death, due to contraindicated medication combinations that can and do cause toxic encephalopathy and deadly neuroleptic malignant syndrome.
