Conflicts of Interest born out of the mutually lucrative revolving door between government regulators and the businesses they regulate is a complex issue, where we don’t want to reduce innovation, limit free speech expression through lobbying, etc. However, we should have a PUBLICLY ACCESSIBLE DATABASE that tracks the movement of individuals between government agencies and all facets of the healthcare, food and other related industries, including specific roles, responsibilities and financial compensation (including by way of funded 3rd party research). Sunlight is a great disinfectant, and this step would be an essential prerequisite to any restrictions, “cooling off” periods, etc., implemented to prevent conflicts of interest.
